Silicone Prototype Parts

We produces prototype liquid silicone rubber (LSR) parts with tool steel injection molds.

We do Not provide Silicone rubber (RTV) molds for casting Metal or Urethane items. To our knowledge there is No Stereolithography or 3D Printer material currently available that can be heat activated yielding a liquid Silicone rubber prototype parts. LSR prototype or Silicone prototype parts can be produced from plastic molds that are gently heated.

Therefore prototyping liquid silicone parts requires a mold (generally metal) that can heated to activate the liquid silicone rubber catalyst. A similar customer investment required for a metal Silicone rubber prototype mold verses a metal Silicone core and cavity set are. The cost difference between the LSR prototype mold and core and cavity set is due to the additional mold components and added mold making machine time required to fit a the core and cavity set into one of the Casco Bay Molding steel-Liquid Silicone Rubber mold bases.

Casco Bay Moldings primary reason for investing in the joint venture engineering center and Silicone injection mold making shop is to be able to offer our liquid Silicone rubber customers cost effective steel prototype silicone molds and steel liquid silicone rubber core and cavity sets.

Casco Bay Molding has completed several projects requiring liquid silicone rubber to be directly injected into a prototype liquid silicone rubber-tool steel mold. Some of these liquid silicone prototype projects require the steel protype liquid silicone rubber mold be hand injected with the use of a syringe, tabletop liquid Silicone rubber injection unit or direct liquid silicone rubber pump hook up.

We have experience with glass, metal and plastic overmolded or 2-component molding onto rigid metal or plastic core that are encapsulated in liquid silicone rubber. Other projects have required complicated removable cores to provide unique liquid silicone part features. In these cases the know-how in gating and venting the liquid silicone rubber mold is important in yielding a well-formed part to customer specifications and needs..
