We are pleased to work with medical device and other OEM design engineers who require the unique biocompatible, Class VI and/or high temperature properties of liquid silicone rubber to producing odorless, tasteless and non-toxic silicone custom molded components.

 

Our joint venture engineering center/mold making shop designs silicone and plastic parts as well as silicone injection molds and plastic injection molds. In many cases managing the final plastic or silicone part design enables us to adjust the liquid silicone mold and silicone part design in a more timely fashion.

 

Working with Kipe Molds, Casco Bay Molding offers our customers cold runner silicone injection molding solutions. Cold runner technology uses a water cooled runner and valve gate system to delivery liquid silicone rubber directly to the heated core and cavity set. The elimination of a conventional silicone runner, which has to be discarded every cycle, allows customers to quickly realize their payback on the cold runner and valve gate system investment. Generally cold runner systems are used in high volume, multiple cavity applications where the silicone material cost is a higher portion of the overall part cost.

 

Liquid Silicone Injection Molding

When developing new silicone rubber products or for short run silicone rubber applications a conventional runner-core and cavity set approach is generally the most cost effective approach. Offering customer liquid silicone rubber core and cavity sets was the driving factor behind Casco Bay Moldings joint venture engineering center/mold shop.

 

Liquid silicone rubber can be difficult to prototype because a heated core and cavity set is required to activate the liquid silicone rubber catalyst. Casco Bay Molding has produced numerous prototype steel core and cavity sets. These liquid silicone rubber prototype core and cavity sets are generally hand injected or directly injected from a liquid silicone rubber pumping system. When prototype silicone part detail dictates, manually removable cores can be employed.

 

The investment required for a short run core and cavity set silicone mold that fits a steel Casco Bay Molding mold base is usually the best value. In all cases we are pleased to work with our customers to make part design and mold changes shortening your development cycle.
