Our Application Development Engineering team partners with our customers to understand the important aspects of the silicone component's function within the final application. This input influences the silicone part design, silicone injection mold design and Class VI silicone grade final selection. Below please find an outline of several other Casco Bay Molding services: Prototype Silicone Molding: Prototype liquid silicone rubber part production generally requires a steel core and cavity set. Out joint venture engineering center/mold making shop designs silicone and plastic parts as well as silicone injection molds and plastic injection molds. These prototype steel core and cavity sets can be hand injected, direct injected from LSR pump or adapted to fit into one of our liquid silicone rubber steel mold bases. Short Run Silicone Molding: Short Run liquid silicone rubber part production requires a steel core and cavity set that is generally designed to fit into a Casco Bay Molding steel mold base. Silicone core and cavity sets are generally fabricated at our joint venture Silicone mold making shop. This affords us to be able to make silicone part and mold design changes with a quick turnaround time, shorting our customers product development cycle.
Product Design: Our joint venture engineering center/silicone mold making shop designs silicone and plastic parts as well as silicone injection molds and plastic injection molds. In many cases managing the final plastic or silicone part design enables us to adjust the mold and part design in a more timely fashion. Cold Runner Molds: Working with Kipe Molds, Casco Bay Molding offers cold runner silicone injection molding solutions to our Class VI, medical grade Liquid Silicone Rubber part customers. This approach is generally used for our high volume applications where the silicone rubber cost is a large part of the overall silicone part cost. Plastic Short Run Injection Molding: We provide quick turn around short run, plastic parts working with our joint venture tooling partner to produce MUD or standard core and cavity sets designed to fit our mold bases. The ability to in injection mold silicone rubber and thermoplastics is a major advantage when working on a project requiring Silicone molded onto plastic, overmolding or 2-component molding. Chinese Molds: When project tooling budgets dictate the Casco Bay engineering team provides Asian - Chinese plastic injection molds or an Asian Chinese silicone injection mold components to our plastic or silicone part customers. We design the part and mold in the US have the mold fabricated in China or Asia but have a full blow tool shop able to make part and mold design changes after the mold is in production at Casco Bay Molding. The Asian tooling cost advantage is often not justified when a project is $7,000 or less especially if there is risk the product could be knocked off. Liquid Silicone Rubber 2-Component part or Overmolded Parts: We have experience with 2-component parts or overmolding silicone onto a various plastic or metal parts. Past projects include silicone military applications, silicone diode test fixtures, liquid silicone rubber medical applications and large (over 1lb) parts that require a rigid metal or plastic backbone. Clean Room Molding Capability: Our portable clean room provides HEPA filtered airflow over the molding and pack out area. Customers have the option of having their liquid silicone rubber parts molded and packaged inside the Casco Bay Molding clean room. Post Molding Assembly: CBM is pleased to perform secondary operations for example: Ultrasonic welding, printing, store packaging pack out, after molding part assembly and product fulfillment.
